 Market leader

More than 840,000 New Zealanders trust us to be there, in sickness and in health.

In New Zealand’s health insurance and corporate wellness sector, Southern Cross is clearly number one. Not only are we the country’s leading health insurer, with more than 60 per cent of the market, claims paid by us represent around 70 per cent of total claims settled by health insurers.1

Leading by example

As a market leader in health and wellness, Southern Cross is always looking for new ways to cultivate healthier workplaces that encourage improved productivity and loyalty.

Our credentials in this area were enhanced when we won the Manaaki Tangata Innovation Award in 2007 for our own in-house health and wellbeing programme, Switch2Well.

Switch2Well includes health checks, walking challenges, activa health management accounts, support for subsidised Weight Watchers meetings, free on-site GP consultations, subsidised smoking cessation meetings and more. To date, 97% of our staff have attended or participated in some form of Switch2Well activity. We truly practice what we preach. Read more about Switch2Well.

Active in the business sector

Within the business sector, Southern Cross Corporate Solutions is viewed as a health and wellness expert. We sponsor a number of key wellness, HR and OSH events throughout the country. We also support a variety of corporate events and special interest group sessions by providing guest speakers and topical information related to wellness.

Adding value to membership

We work hard to ensure the benefits we offer are of value to members. All members aged 16 are issued a Southern Cross Member card which gives them access to discounts and offers from Southern Cross partners (retailers, health providers and businesses throughout New Zealand). Members are sent vouchers three times a year.
